You Can Make Kids’ Football Helmets – Just For Kicks!

What if your kid wants a football helmet just for playing at home? Where would you find such kids’ football helmets? There is nothing to worry – you can make your kids’ play helmet sitting at home! All you need are a few things like fabric measuring tape, colored construction paper, transparent tape, glue and a pair of scissors.

It is easy for a parent to follow these seven steps and it does not take too much time either. Here are the instructions:

Step 1: The first job is to measure you child’s head. Take the fabric measuring tape and place it between his eyebrows. Then roll it over the head and take it down to the nape of the neck. Add one more inch to the measured length. Next, spread the tape across the back of the head and measure the width of the head from the top of the ears. You have the length and width of the top of the helmet.

Step 2: Now you have to cut out the top of the helmet. The construction paper should be cut according to the measurements of step 1. You could choose any base color for the kids’ football helmets.

Step 3:  Your next step is to draw one of the sides. The helmet top should be curved into shape and held perpendicular against a folded piece of construction paper. You could ask your kid to help you by holding the paper in place as you draw the top arc of the side of the helmet.

Step 4: Now you cut out the sides. You could do this for both the sides of the helmet simultaneously by folding the paper.

Step 5: Now it is time to decorate the kids’ football helmets. Various colors of construction paper can be used to copy your child’s favorite team colors.

Step 6: Now lay one side of the football helmet on a table with the logo facing down. The helmet top can now be curled up and taped in place. All the sticky surface of the tape should be stuck to the paper to prevent the child’s hair from getting stuck to the tape. The other side with the logo out should then be taped.

Step 7: The facemask can be created by cutting two strips of colored construction paper that are 14 inches in length and ¼ inch in width. Another ¼ inch strip should be cut that is 8 inches in length. Take one of the longer strips and tape it to both sides of the lower front of the helmet. Use the same place to tape the ends of the other long strip making the arc of the bulge to stand about 2 inches higher than the first strip. Take the other strip and cut strips that are 2 ¼ long. Then tape them to connect the two arcs.
